Travel Special: Alpine Style

With ski season in full swing enjoying lashings of snow and unbeatable après ski, in the Jules B office our minds are firmly on our favourite resorts, vin chaud and alpine style. Even if you’re not planning to jet off for a week or so of hurtling down a mountain and dancing in your ski boots, let’s face it, England is pretty chilly at present with the North East being no exception and we could all do with a little alpine style inspiration.

Where: A sure snow, glacier resort teaming with a certain French… je ne sais quoi- Les Deux Alpes. Think picturesque wooden chalets, snow topped pine trees and as much Tarte Tatin as you can handle. Perfect this time of year as the snow readily falls, queues are short and at times pistes so quiet you can really believe you’re the only one for miles.

Les Deux Alpes, France

Dress code: The French have always set the standard when it comes to fashion, so why should a bit of snow get in the way? For ladies think royal style fur headbands, scarves and accessories, layers of cashmere and cosy sheepskin boots. For men think fair isle and Nordic inspired chunky knits, fur trapper hats and luxury cashmere scarves.

Yves Salomon fur collar scarf, was £74.99, now £52.49

360 Sweater Grayson cashmere jumper, was £234.99, now £140.99

KOS Sienna Boots, was £484.99, now £242.50

Stetson rabbit fur Boulder trapper hat, £78.99

Barbour cashmere tartan scarf, was £89.95, now £80.96

Napapijri Dargan Jumper, was £198.99, now £139.29

Up the slopes practicality is key but style doesn’t necessarily need to be compromised. Copying the 80’s French countess style sequin all in one ski suit should be avoided at all costs, but a little splash of luxury never hurt anyone.  Napapijri (aptly named ‘Arctic Circle’ in Finnish) creates wearable and stylish sportswear packed with handy design features including real down quilting for maximum warmth and comfort.

Women's Napapijri Ackerman jacket, was £454.99, now £295.74

Men's Napapijri Sarur jacket, was £494.99, now £346.49

Top tip: A must visit is the resturant L’Alisier for Chef Julien Gorichon’s moreish Raclette and sublime duck, followed by the Polar Bear pub for relaxing by the cosy open fire.

Let it snow!
