The Golden Globes

Blog 18/01/2013 3:20 PM

January 13th in Los Angeles marked the beginning of award season with the annual Golden Globes Award Ceremony. Hosted by real-life best-friends and comic duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (wearing L’Wren Scott and Stella McCartney respectively), the ceremony was a culmination of talent, beauty, fashion and celebration. Win or lose, we all know the focus was on the dresses as they paraded down the red carpet. Who wore who? Who looked the best? Who looked the worst? We all wanted to know.

Of course there were winners with awards too, Ben Affleck had a hugely successful night, first with “Argo” sweeping the Motion Picture Drama Award then being presented with a Golden Globe for his Direction of “Argo”, beating film-legend Quentin Tarantino who directed Django Unchained. In his acceptance speech, Ben Affleck cited his wife Jennifer Garner as his reason and motivation for success which, needless to say, brought a tear to our romantic eyes.

As the night went on, Les Miserables provided the foundation for Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman to accept the Actor and Supporting Actress Awards, as well as the film itself achieving the Motion Picture Musical/Comedy Golden Globe. One of our favourite winners was Adele, who took home the Golden Globe for the Original Song, Motion Picture for “Skyfall”, the electric accompaniment to the latest James Bond film starring Daniel Craig who attended the ceremony with this wife Rachel Weisz. Her acceptance speech was moving, she dedicated her award to her newborn son saying that with him in her life she would never be devastated again. However, if we were to give an award for the acceptance speech of the night, it would have to go to Julianne Moore, who gave a very ambiguous speech hinting at her sexuality. Half coming-out, half telling everyone off for invading her privacy, we love her for speaking out and saying more than the average winner.

We don’t even know where to start with the dresses. A flurry of couture walked the red-carpet, from Anne Hathaway in breath-taking Chanel to Kate Hudson looking golden in Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen and Miranda Kerr in Zuhair Murad, the fashion was incredible. However, for every winner there must be a loser, and while we believe fashion is personal and can be expressed however the individual chooses, some prints and cuts are hard to justify. But here at Jules B we don’t name and shame bad fashion, we celebrate great fashion. So, without further ado, let Jules B introduce you to our personal favourites.
