Tim Walker: Dreamscapes

Blog 23/08/2013 9:10 AM

This weekend is your last opportunity to step into the unique world of Tim Walker.  Normally seen on the pages of Vogue and Vanity Fair, Tim Walker’s imaginative and exuberant photography is on show at Bowes Museum, County Durham.  Curated by Greville Worthington, a former Turner Prize judge, Dreamscapes explores the influence of British surrealism and landscape painting in Walker’s unique vision.

The innovative exhibition displays 26 of Walker’s photographs, displayed for the first time, in individual light boxes. Hanging in a dark room, the presentation adds a new quality to the images; emphasising the dream-like vision of his work.

With the use of digital manipulation seen as the norm in the fashion industry, today his work is unique; sometimes hard to believe. Impressively, all of Tim Walker’s photography is created with props and no Photoshop. Giant dolls crash through dark forests, beds float in trees and a forest river is blurred with a living room; so convincingly it is hard to work out which is the original scene.

In celebration of his love of the Northumberland countryside, many of the images have been staged in and around the area.  Take advantage of viewing an iconic photographer’s work in the North of England at the must-see exhibition. The Bowes Museum has been lucky enough to host Dreamscapes throughout the Summer and the exhibition closes on 1st September.
