Brits in Paris: Alexander McQueen SS11

An exploration of ideals of beauty at their most extreme, Burton shocked with lace clad faces and glimpses of skin

Casting aside the regal theme, Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen shocked this week at PFW. Stepping out in hoods and masks, the McQueen model troop wowed crowds with a feminine and elaborate collection not shy to show glimpses of lace clad skin. We’re not sure Kate Middleton herself, Burton’s most famous customer would dare to bare all in the collections Agent Provocateur inspired designs this season. Speaking on Tuesday she said: “This is a collection about excess. It’s an exploration of ideals of beauty at their most extreme. We go to such lengths to adorn ourselves that we almost become [...]

It’s nearly 18 months since the tragic death of one of Britain’s most talented designers, but Alexander McQueen has certainly not been forgotten and is still making headlines as the fashion world looks back over his life’s work. The homegrown McQueen’s final work showed in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York this year entitled ‘Savage Beauty’ and attracted a record breaking 661,509 visitors between May 4th and August 2011 this year, ranking alongside the museums 1963 exhibition of the Mona Lisa. The incredible popularity of the exhibition prompted organisers to extend by one week and extend opening hours while [...]

You savage!

Record breaker.

Just as it had been announced that the ‘Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty’ exhibition set an attendance record over the weekend, the house’s Fall 2011 advertisement campaign has well and truly landed. As of Sunday night, more than 582,000 people had seen the ‘Savage Beauty’ show, beating any previous records for a fashion exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The ad was photographed by David Sims and features Raquel Zimmermann wearing the mind-blowing creations from Sarah Burton’s second solo collection for the brand. McQueen challenged the understanding of fashion beyond utility to a conceptual expression of culture and identity. The [...]

Paris’ infamous Haute Couture week kicked of on Monday and the buzz surrounding the Christian Dior show has been palpable; sending (perfectly dressed) ripples through the fashion world (and Jules B HQ). For the first time in 15 years John Galliano‘s designs have not been featured on the Dior catwalk, in his place Galliano’s long time colleague (and fomer second in command) 51 year old Bill Gaytten took the final walk down the runway. It has neither been denied or verified how long the former Studio Head will remain Creative Director but the rumour mill has been strife with suggestions [...]

Luxe Magazine May/June 2011 | TREND WATCH

May_June_11_LUXE

McQueen mania is rightly whooshing over the nation after that show-stopping royal wedding gown… how fabulous was it? Timely then that just over a year after his death the fashion world is honoring the life of iconic British designer Lee (Alexander) McQueen with a Costume Institute retrospective celebrating his life’s work. Anna Wintour and Samantha Cameron gathered London’s fashion press to launch the exhibit which will feature pieces from all of his collections beginning with Nihilism (1994) and ending with his posthumous collection Angels & Demons (2olo). “When I heard from Anna Wintour that the Costume Institute’s major annual exhibition [...]

A Royally Stylish Affair…

kate moss

It is a commonly known saying that “bad news comes  in threes”  however in the fashion world it seems that weddings do as well! If any of you (like myself) are feeling slightly deflated now that the hype and anticipation of the royal wedding is over, think again! Over the next few months there will not one but two more royal weddings (that’s fashion royality by the way). Recording artist, muse and all round entrepreneur Lily Allen is due to wed her builder boyfriend Sam Cooper with an intimate ceremony of 100 people in Gloucestershire on June 11, and unlike [...]
